چکیده

We describe a new technique for proving the existence of small 2-nets for hypergraphs satisfying certain simple conditions. The technique is particularly useful for proving o( 1 2 log 1 2 ) upper bounds which is not possible using the standard VC dimension theory. We apply the technique to several geometric hypergraphs and obtain simple proofs for the existence of O( 1 2 ) size 2-nets for them. This includes the geometric hypergraph in which the vertex set is a set of points in the plane and the hyperedges are defined by a set of pseudo-disks. This result was not known previously. We also get a very short proof for the existence of O( 1 2 ) size 2-nets for halfspaces in R .

Quranic way of presenting proofs for God`s existence

Regardless of the view of those philosophers like Plantinga who see no need in any proof for the existence of God, scholars have presented four views on Quranic way of proving the existence of God including demonstration, awakening, implication and clear demonstration. Describing and criticizing the views in detail, the author has viewed differently. God has regarded the level of the addressee`...

Proof Nets for Intuitionistic Logic

Until the beginning of the 20th century, there was no way to reason formally about proofs. In particular, the question of proof equivalence had never been explored. When Hilbert asked in 1920 for an answer to this very question in his famous program, people started looking for proof formalizations. Natural deduction and sequent calculi, which were invented by Gentzen in 1935, quickly became two...

Unification nets: canonical proof net quantifiers

Proof nets for MLL (unit-free Multiplicative Linear Logic) are concise graphical representations of proofs which are canonical in the sense that they abstract away syntactic redundancy such as the order of non-interacting rules. We argue that Girard's extension to MLL1 (first-order MLL) fails to be canonical because of redundant existential witnesses, and present canonical MLL1 proof nets calle...

Provability in Intuitionistic Linear Logic from a New Interpretation on Petri nets

Linear logic is a logic of actions which seems well suited to various computer science applications. From its intrinsic ability to reeect computational resources, it is possible to reene diierent programming paradigms like formulae-as-types (proofs-as-programs) or formulae-as-states (proofs-as-computations) with a ner control on resource management. In the latter case, the correspondence betwee...

A new graphical calculus of proofs

We offer a simple graphical representation for proofs of intuitionistic logic, which is inspired by proof nets and interaction nets (two formalisms originating in linear logic). This graphical calculus of proofs inherits good features from each, but is not constrained by them. By the Curry-Howard isomorphism, the representation applies equally to the lambda calculus, offering an alternative dia...
